Longleat House in Wiltshire was the site of a long-running Doctor Who exhibition. In 1983 the BBC chose the site as the location of an official Who convention, organised and run by the BBC. With typical BBC organisation (at the time) they planned for about 2,000 people over the 2-day Easter weekend. They miscalculated by at least 20 times, with more than 40,000 people turning up. Queues of people were still arriving, cars backed up far along the driveway when the second day was well into the afternoon.
